FAQ
- Q: Who is liable?
- A: The person would be covered for liability the same as any other employee.
- Q: Who would support the employee?
- A: Depending on the person's needs, a job coach can be provided (at no employer cost) to work alongside the person, supporting a pathway to successful employment. The intention is to build natural supports, meaning that co-workers and supervisors will interact, much like any employee would experience. The job coach will work with the person supported at the level they require and adjust this level as the person becomes more independent.
- Q: What can an employee do?
- A: Anything any employee might do, considering their skill level and ability to learn new skills.
- Q: How will the person get to the job?
- A: Unless the employer is providing this benefit, it will be the responsibility of the employee.
- Q: What kind of modifications must I make to accommodate a person experiencing disabilities?
- A: All employers must comply to the Americans With Disabilities Act.
- Q: Who do I contact to discuss further?
- A: Contact us to learn more.
Employers:
If you are not sure, please consider hiring a person to do "customized employment", meaning accomplishing specific tasks that the employer might need completed. This can happen during specific times and days, for time periods that fit both the employer and employee. Examples: Folding silverware into napkins in the morning, stuffing envelopes for a weekly mailing, filing papers every other Tuesday, shredding documents an hour a day, sweeping up after the mechanics have finished their shift.
Many people take great pride in their jobs and dependably complete their work to the best of their ability, in a friendly, helpful manner.
We hope you will consider giving people the opportunity to fulfill your employment needs.
