We Learn!
We Learn!
Many of us take for granted seemingly simple things such as entering a building, buckling up our seat belt or ordering a hamburger with no onions... but, for many, these are huge obstacles. lifempowered strives to teach many life skills as part of our everyday operation. We believe in allowing a person to try for their self before we step in to do for them. This is the only way independence can be learned – and that is always our goal. Social skills, job skills, self care, self advocacy, community access, communication, safety skills, housekeeping, transportation, and cooking are only some of the many aspects of living we help teach. We invite persons we support to learn through classes and experiences, with supports to help guide them to success.
We are a state leader, in that we work with communication specialists, professionally working to create the bridges that help us learn people’s needs and desires. It is pure delight to have a person with communication challenges be able to discuss something with you, or others, using these tools. Due to these successes, many people are now experiencing more contentment and fulfillment.
Persons we support are always encouraged to become part of self-advocacy groups, such as the local SPARC (Self Protection Advocacy Rights Council). Besides meeting new friends, people have opportunity to share their desires to be heard about matters important to them and become involved in various group events.
We use the goals persons have set for themselves to guide us to help fulfill their life’s desires. Various activities introduce people to the arts, animals, history, cultural diversity, the environment, healthy choices, career opportunities and sensory experiences... to only name a few. Along the way, we are interacting with other community members in an inclusive manner.
With the many skills learned, we move closer to independence and a full life.
